- Maremma view from Villa Oleandri
The Maremma is a stretch of land that covers much of southwestern Tuscany, including the coast that looks out to the beautiful island of Elba. This oft missed area includes beautiful sandy beaches, ancient villages, thermal baths and fabulous view of the Tuscan hillside and the Mediterranean sea. The well known red wine, Morellino di Scansano (a personal favorite) comes from this region as well as local specialties (from both land and sea) like accquacotta (a vegetable soup with tomato and egg), wild boar, tortelli maremma (filled with spinach and ricotta cheese with a meat ragu), or the classic spaghetti allo scoglio (with seafood). Yum. Best not to skip this incredible part of Tuscany.
